Kissing is a foreign phenomena in Mongolian culture. Traditionally, Mongols instead of kissing on the cheeks (touching with the lips on your cheeks) would smell it.

Therefore, if you want to write in Mongolian I was kissed by mother you can write ээждээ үнсүүлсэн (kissed by mother) or ээждээ үнэрлүүлсэн (smelled by mother) both can be used interchangeably.

So what is the advantages of smelling over kissing? Why don’t you find out yourself. This works especially well if you have small kids. Hold your kid close to you as if you are kissing. Your lips should be almost touching the cheeks. But instead of kissing, make a deep inhale. Inhale with your whole chest. Do you feel it? Somehow its more satisfying than just kissing because you are smelling pheromones of love…
